I was in a great mood on that unforgettable Halloween in 1993. I spent my whole day in the theatre because I was in a play and most of my classes took place in the theatre as well. I went out for dinner before having to return for the play. I remember flipping through the stations on the radio. I'd hear, "River", but I turned the stations so fast that I didn't hear what went along with River, and I really didn't think they were talking about River Phoenix, anyway. I've been testing Windows 98 since the very first release, a developer preview that shipped just after Christmas 1996. That initial release was basically a rebadged version of Windows 95 OSR-2 with USB support, the release of Windows 95 you'd get if you bought a new computer in 1997. It was stable as hell, and though IE 4.0 integration was still months away, you could see from Day One that this product was going to be something special. Over the course of the next year and a half, I installed every single build of Windows 98 Memphis--and there were dozens, all available for download--on at least one machine. Most builds, I was able to install on two or three machines. I suspect that most Windows 98 reviewers are far less experienced than I in this regard: this isn't a point of pride necessarily, but I feel that I have had a unique amount of experience with this operating system and thus a unique perspective on its role in the industry.

For most of human history, we lived in a world of a few haves and lots of have-nots. That slowly began to change with the advent of capitalism and the Industrial Revolution. As economic growth took off and spread throughout the population, it created our own world in the West in which there are a whole bunch of haves and a few have-more-and-betters.
For example, the percentage of American households below the poverty line who have basic appliances has grown steadily over the last few decades, with poor families in 2005 being more likely to own things like a clothes dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, or air conditioner than the average household was in 1971. I had an entertainment lawyer in New York, because when I was really young I auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club but I was too young. So instead the casting director told me to go to New York and when I went I did, I met up with this entertainment lawyer. And, after two years, I auditioned again for the Mickey Mouse Club and I did that for two years, and after that, I went home and was, like, a normal kid again. Then, I was like, “Y’know, I’d like to get back into the entertainment business.” So I sent the entertainment lawyer a tape of me singing and some pictures and he sent it to Jive Records and they signed me.

A few years ago, Barb had her own car, a job and even her own home. In her words, she “had it all.”

In most cases, when an employer ends the employment of an employee who has been continuously employed for three months, the employer must provide the employee with either written notice of termination, termination pay or a combination (as long as the notice and the number of weeks of termination pay together equal the length of notice the employee is entitled to receive).
