“The overall growth in arms sales of the Top 100 in 2017 was driven by increases in arms procurement spending by several states, in particular the United States and Russia,” the report’s authors wrote.
Total weapons sales by Russian firms came in second. For the first time, a Russian company appeared in the top 10 alongside European and American corporations. The arms sales of the 10 Russian companies amounted to $37.7 billion in 2017, which accounts for 9.5 percent of total top 100 arms sales.

On July 6, the National Hurricane Center began monitoring a trough of low pressure as it moved from the Midwest over the Tennessee Valley. The National Hurricane Center expected the trough to emerge into the Gulf of Mexico, and potentially develop into a tropical cyclone within several days. From July 6-9th, the trough drifted southeastward across Tennessee, and southward across Georgia and the Florida Panhandle due to the steering influence of a ridge of high pressure over the Central United States. On July 9th, a broad area of low pressure developed across South Alabama, Georgia & the Florida Panhandle before the system entered the Gulf of Mexico. The low-pressure system, while still lacking a well-defined center of circulation, became a little better defined on the following day. As the system had a high potential of producing tropical storm conditions and storm surge along the coast of Louisiana within the next couple of days, the National Hurricane Center initiated advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone Two at 10 AM CDT on July 10th. The system subsequently organized into a Tropical Storm Barry at 10 AM CDT on July 11th.
Tropical Storm Barry moved slowly westward, only slowly strengthening due to the tropical cyclone experiencing northerly wind shear through July 12th. This resulted in an abnormally structured storm, with most of the thunderstorms south of the center.

In 2016, 20 most popularly shared articles on Facebook had the word “cancer” in their titles, and more than half were based on dubious claims and misinformation, according to a startling study by the Independent. The volume of the shares of these stories is phenomenal, with the most popular ones being liked and shared by millions of people. This means there is an excellent chance that something related to cancer that you read in 2016 could well have been nothing more than quackery posing as science.

In recent times, a number of the major tech companies have dumped some contributors, due to a mix of customer and employee protest. So we have gained say 99 instead of say 100, and of course I am personally happy to see many of the deplatformed sites go, or move to other carriers. Most of the deplatformed sites, of course, I am not familiar with at all, but that is endogenous. I would say don’t overreact to the endowment effect of having, for a while, felt one had literally everything. You never did. You still have way, way more than you did in the recent past.
You might be worried that, because of deplatforming, the remaining sites and writers and YouTube posters have to “walk the line” more than ideally would be the case. That to me is a genuine concern, but still let’s be comparative. Did you ever try to crack the New York publishing scene in the 1990s, or submit an Op-Ed to the New York Times before the internet was “a thing”? Now that was deplatforming, and most of it was due to the size of the slush pile rather than to evil intentions, though undoubtedly there was bias in both settings.

Good Samaritan laws are meant to protect those who come to the aid of others for no other reason than kindness. Good Samaritan laws only help if the rescuer (or would-be rescuer) is acting without any expectation of reward. In other words, if you are getting paid to rescue then you aren't a good Samaritan. Paid rescuers are expected to do their jobs correctly and can be held accountable for mistakes.
Depending on the state, getting rewarded after the fact can also count as expectation of reward. If you help someone at a car accident and then are rewarded monetarily or otherwise, you may be excluded from good Samaritan protection.
